Transportation energy concerns for households are intrinsically tied to the areas of fuel economy and fuel prices. Other concerns such as driving distance play an important role, but are tied to both fuel economy and fuel price and are mostly of consumer preference and choice. The government has intervened in both of these areas with the hopes of keeping transportation fuel cheap to American consumers. This has come in the form of stricter fuel economy regulations and a push for alternative transportation fuels such as ethanol.
