Energizing Michigan
Overview

Biofuels are often considered any fuel energy source derived from biomass. In this section we concentrate on several specific types of biofuels that have been converted from a commodity into another form for use. The biomass section then takes up the use of the biological product itself as a fuel source.

Biofuels then are commodities that gain their energy through photosynthesis from solar energy. They are a renewable source of energy and on the cutting edge of many technology research projects currently underway. There are a variety of applications for biofuels such as transportation, electricity generation, and heat.
